Choosing natural skin care products for your baby!
Now that you are a parent, you are probably finding yourself worried about things that you were never worried about before.
For example, you probably never thought too much about the ingredients in your cosmetics and skin care products.
After your little one arrived, you may be debating whether or not you need to choose only natural and organic cosmetics to use on your newborn.
You may also wonder if it is absolutely necessary to use baby specific skin care products.
To be completely honest when it comes to choosing the products that you put on your baby there is no such thing as being too picky.
Although, most ingredients are harmless in moderation you don’t want to be applying harmful toxins and chemicals onto your baby’s very sensitive and absorbent skin. For the first few years (at least) it is wise to choose natural baby products with simple ingredients. This way, you can at least be certain, that you are not putting your baby into contact with chemicals that may be harmful to their development.
Why are there special baby skin care products anyways?
Some people may question whether or not regular “non-infant” skin care products are fine to use on their child.
On occasion if baby products are not available, this is probably fine. However, there are a few good reasons why you want to make sure that you are using natural baby-friendly cosmetics when caring for your young one.
Babies tend to have much thinner skin that is prone to becoming dry. The baby products that you use should be mild and should help to moisturize your baby’s skin.
Babies may also be more sensitive to perfumes and other additives. The last thing you want is for your baby to develop an allergic reaction! For the first while it is a good idea to use only natural and organic baby products that are perfume and additive free. Pay attention to the ingredient list.
At the end of the day it is a good idea to choose only skin care products that have been specifically made for babies. When possible you also want to choose natural products so that you can be 100% sure that they are safe. In Canada, you should look for baby products with an NPN number. This is the only way to know for certain that the product is certified as a natural product.
